Beyond the FAQ

  • In Alabama, a personal representative (also called an executor) is responsible for handling a person’s estate after death. This typically includes filing the will with the probate court, being officially appointed by the judge, identifying and protecting assets, notifying creditors, paying debts, and distributing the remaining property to beneficiaries. Most estates go through probate unless they qualify for a simplified process.
